1. Set Clear Goals

Before starting the challenge, set clear goals for what you want to achieve. Do you want to improve your conversation skills, build a larger vocabulary, or get more comfortable with grammar?

Remember that JAEM Korean instructors discuss together with the student on what areas he or she needs improvement. Throughout both missions and Zoom classes, we analyze where our help is needed the most – so use this chance with a 4-week challenge: JAEM Korean Intensive  to get a customized 1:1 feedback, tailored just for you.

Our students mentioned how the program is challenging enough for intermediate level learners and the only way to improve is to incorporate self-study along with the challenge. Breaking your main goal into smaller weekly or even daily objectives, can keep you motivated and keep your Korean learning progress in check.

Pro Tip: For the maximum effect, ask your lead instructor for advice on studying routine and what specific areas you need to focus on.

2. Create a Study Routine

Consistency is the key! During the program you will be focusing on completing daily writing missions and attending group Zoom classes. First week might feel overwhelming with the new schedule, but make sure to mark your calendar and study the reading files in advance. This will make the class run smoothly, allowing you to ask questions during the session.

Set aside a specific time each day for your studies. Whether it’s 30 minutes in the morning before Zoom class or an hour after dinner, having a routine will help you stay disciplined.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to mix it up! Balance your routine with various activities like vocabulary drills or practicing speaking (shadowing) using the Jaem Korean app. Did you know that all members of 4-week challenge: JAEM Korean Intensive  get free access to all the app courses? Make use of it and study on your own with just one click.

3. Stay Engaged with the JAEM Korean Community

One of the best ways to stay motivated is by staying connected with other members of the Korean language challenge. Remember that you are not alone in this Korean learning journey. You have direct access to your instructor via DM, and you can also post questions on the Q&A channel.

Don’t be shy, go ahead and get that question answered! Here’s an example of common queries we receive from our students:

  • 안녕하세요? 질문이 있는데요. 한국어로 어떻게 말해요: It is the right thing to do.
  • 이번에 타려던 비행기 시간이 변경되었어요. In this sentence I don’t quite understand 타려던 비행기. Is this a shortened version of 타려고 했던 비행기 or is this some other grammar?

There are so many nuanced grammar structures in Korean, where students need detailed explanations, especially phrases used in informal conversations. Jaem Korean team will be there to reply back with examples to explain why, when and how the certain phrases work.

Pro Tip: Remember, it’s not about being perfect but about making steady progress. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or celebrate your achievements with the community! A little encouragement can go a long way in keeping you motivated. Share your progress to your friends by including #jaemkoreanchallenge hashtag on your photos or videos. Don’t forget to tag @jaemkorean too!

4. Track Your Progress

Sometimes, it’s easy to feel like you’re not improving, especially when learning a new language. However, the 4-week challenge: JAEM Korean Intensive  ensures you study Korean every day, keeping your vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills sharp.

Maintaining a journal can help you see how far you’ve come. From day 1, keep track of all the new phrases and grammar constructions you have learned during the Zoom class. With a focus on reading and grammar for one hour, you’ll not only pick up the new material but also receive valuable feedback—both on your own work and on other students’ efforts. Reinforce new knowledge by writing down your own sentence examples and researching more on the usage of certain phrases.

Trust us, once you have hit the last day of a challenge – you will look back at your notes and will be amazed at how far you’ve come in your learning. Going over an old mission you struggled with at the beginning of the challenge can be a powerful reminder of your growth, confidence and hard work.

5. Visualize Your Success

At times when motivation wanes, visualizing your end goal can help complete the challenge.  Picture yourself confidently speaking Korean during your next trip to Korea, watching a K-drama without subtitles, preparing for the TOPIK exam or even making new friends who speak the language. No matter what your goal is, you have already made an important step towards improving your Korean by studying with us!

As always we applaud you for your bravery, passion for Korean language and culture and overall strive to improve! We hope by completing the 4-week challenge: JAEM Korean Intensive  you are getting closer to your language-learning goals!
